The Red Lion Prestwick
The Red Lion is an award-winning local pub.
The Red Lion, one of the most important historical buildings in Ayrshire has been trading since 1850. A traditional public house which has undergone significant refurbishment in recent years to create a contemporary village pub feel, serving the best bistro food in the area with a warm welcome guaranteed in the bustling bar area and the best beer garden in Ayrshire.
The Birthplace of The Open.
In 1860, eight golfers met at the front door of the Red Lion Hotel and made their way down to the sacred links of Prestwick Golf Club to play in what was Golf’s first Open Championship. They played two rounds of 12 holes, returning to the Red Lion for lunch. They then returned to the links for their final round. To this day golfers come from all parts of the World to recreate the journey those pioneers made all that time ago.
